D-day was one of the most successful attacks during World War 2, June 6, 1944. The allied forces invaded northern France, Normandy . It only took one day to invade northern France. More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion in the beaches of Normandy. They landed along a heavily protected 50-mile stretch. The beach was full of barbed wire, gate-like structures approximately 10 feet high and strapped with mines, heavy logs were driven into the beach floor at an angle with mines strapped to the ends and along the log, and the worst defense that they had was the MG 42 machine gun. It was the fastest machine gun ever at that time. It shot 1,200 rounds per minute and it killed a lot of soldiers. That day a total of 4414 allied soldiers were killed.
